Mid-June Madness: E3, WWDC, and More!

June is going to be pretty nuts for those of us in the tech/content space. E3 and WWDC plus some big product launches from Adobe and Avid mean it’s going to pretty hard to keep track of everything. But not to fear! I made myself a handy list of all the events – and more importantly, where to find coverage. And I’m sharing it with you because I’m a nice person.

Apple Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC)

June 10th-14th

“Get an in-depth look at what’s next in iOS and OS X, and learn how to take your apps to the next level. With over 100 sessions, extensive hands–on labs, and engaging events, you’ll connect with Apple engineers and fellow developers for an incredible week of inspiration.”

What that really means is that they’ll announce stuff. New processors for some of the laptops are expected, as is the unveiling of the Jony Ive-designed iOS 7.

Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3)

June 10th-13th

“E3 is the world’s premier trade show for computer and video games and related products. The show is owned by the Entertainment Software Association (ESA), the U.S. association dedicated to serving the business and public affairs needs of the companies, publishing interactive games for video game consoles, handheld devices, personal computers, and the Internet. For more information, please visit www.E3Expo.com or www.TheESA.com.”

This will also be our first look at Sony’s Playstation4 hardware, and we’ll (hopefully) get more info on both the PS4 and Xbox One consoles coming this fall.

Adobe Creative Cloud

Adobe Creative Cloud Launch

June 17th

Technically not a launch, but the beginning of the subscription-only licensing model for all future Adobe products. While Creative Cloud has existed for about a year, June 17th will mark the launch of the CC applications: the first suite of Adobe apps to not be available as a retail version (or “perpetual license”, as they call it).

Avid Media Composer 7 Hero

Avid Media Composer 7 Launch

TBD (but I’d bet somewhere around June 17th) EDIT: Rumored 6/27

Probably the least exciting of the list, but still notable for those of us who make a living cutting up video. While they haven’t announced a specific release date, Media Composer 7 will launch in June, and I’m betting it’ll do so around the same time as Adobe’s stuff.
